rsc016 | distorted memories

the debut album of Karl Frank, distorted memories, is a collection of songs recorded during 2005-2007. an album with simple but unexpected pop songs, drenched in a lo-fi ambience, which makes you think of bands like joy division, interpol and yo la tengo. the sound has a distorted uniqueness to it and the lyrics are improvised, often incoherent and sometimes even dadaistic.

even though the sound is quite mashed up and broken it never gets noisy or lose its direction. from the potential radio hit eye lost you with its catchy and irregular drums to the more low key and ambient asleep/awake (lonely space cowboy) the focus stays on short, simple and direct pop songs. signs oh signs and red lights are other songs worth mentioning as they very much describe the Karl Frank distorted memories music making essence.

the experimental and energetic pop album distorted memories makes a good attempt at reaching your music loving pop heart and we are very proud at making this our first release in 2008.

rsc015 | a sailor's love

a sailor's love is the debut album of Jonassis O'Hara and one of the most intriguing releases of redstarcommunity so far. the twelve songs were mainly recorded from february to june 2007 and finalized in august and september the same year. Jonassis O'Hara was assisted by Emil Johansson, Viktor Ottosson and Karin Hedblad in the recording process and Tyrone Miller with the mastering of the record.

the instruments heard on the recordings stretch from acoustic guitars to 80's keyboards, beer cans and even pencils following the saying that 'everything goes'. all songs were recorded as they came by without thinking too much about what fitted together and they range from the quieter grammar and wardrobe to the louder ghosts and blues with songs like youth and löv in between. influences and references can be found all over the genre spectrum with extremes like country and d'n'b (yes, the amen break is present).

Jonassis O'Hara has created a varied album where nothing can be expected, except an alternate take on the pop way of making music. because a sailor's love is what every pop album should be, an album filled with the joy and love of music making.

rsc014 | sundowning

tlvs have completed their first full length album. entitled sundowning, the album marks a return to the recorditorium & the guidance of Allen B, who worked with McGlothlin on the original 7". tracked over weekends in august & september 2006, the lp marks the first collaborative work of the group, including all four members.

where the ep solidified song structures, sundowning showcases an optimistic hopefulness within bleak textures. favorites from the band's live set (winding walk, winter rain, you are what gets me in trouble) are set in the context of the group's forward vision (NY104, headed east, very heaven). clocking in at 45 minutes, the lp has a spacious, open feel, while restricting the listener with enough ebb & flow to assure a memorable experience. there are similarities with rsc011, as rsc011 might be considered a work print for sundowning, but new versions of the rsc011 songs and all new songs makes sundowning live its own life, making the two completely different experiences.

for you consideration, sundowning, as presented by the late virginia summers.

in spring 2007 the american director Adrien Wayne Colón asked the demons if they could score a short film of his. the fifteen minute film, called the last of our kind, was set in a post apocalyptic world following three young men to a inevitable end. this release is that film score plus one remix/cover for each song made by the demons and friends.

the six original songs of the score, sounding desolate but still quite haunting and beautiful, have been translated by the artists in diverse ways, ranging from PHerd's noisy guitar mashing pop to sewer election's drony tape recorder experiment, visiting Tyrone Miller's shoegaze loops along the way.

the internet exclusive and friends is the perfect soother of wait ache for the demons next full length album.

rsc012 | in the mountain's belly

all songs were recorded during a few days in jönköping early 2007. the recordings took place in Viktor's room in his father's apartment (god bless tolerant neighbours). help was provided by Jonas Ottosson (Sanchez is driven by demons) who played some, Gustav Karlsson (log cabin) who mastered the record and Robin Watkins (dialog cet) who made the beautiful purple (cd-r) and green (net) cover artwork together with Jesper Canell.

the record includes songs that make a stunning impression. the free form tracks samerna hade rätt and pink moonlight introduces a new shift in leafes music making. slow, dissonant and lose structured make the songs exciting and haunting. leafes howls with the wolves and bastard son are pop songs at their very best. interesting soundscapes and amazing lyrics brings that extra to the otherwise great songs. autumn storm is a tale inspired by the storm Gudrun that caused a lot of destruction in the southern parts of sweden a few years ago. the song will surely bring tears to your eyes as you'll hear about the animals taking shelter. the closing song wooden lung generates pictures of how modern life shapes us as human beings. the song is not without some sad parts but it's neither without hope.

in the mountain's belly is a perfect break from the hectic urban life of ours and make you long for more of leafes peculiar direction in pots, drones and sad farmer's broken hearts.

the introduction of the late virigina summers to redstarcommunity and the arrival of 2006's tlvs ep finds a group poised to romance stereos far & wide with a tasteful melding of thoughtful rhythm, simple melody & lo-fi production. tlvs was recorded at the harding street assembly lab which emphasis the DIY-esq feel of the late virgina summers. also included on this ep is a live version of the song you are what gets me in trouble recorded on the road at the nanci raygun in richmond.

rsc010 | all systems are ghosts remnant

after finishing all systems are ghosts Sanchez is driven by demons realized that they had thrown away most of the recorded material from the session in matchtown studios. they decided to go back to the material and start all over again. they wanted to make their last album again, but to make it different, to make it new. it's what most people would call a remix album but the result is something else, a complete rework.

the result is what happens when different times and different feelings processes the same material. darker and filled with more emotions than a Sanchez is driven by demons album ever been before. the soundscape created in this album reminds of earlier influences, like any constellation band or mogwai's darker work. the song a thousand frequencies which even includes proper lyrics and singing really plays that classic post-rock card where a delayed guitar finally reaches that longed-for climax. however, when you ask Sanchez is driven by demons, they make it pretty clear that the album only should be considered a sidestep and not to be taken too serious.

the album might not be easy to understand, not easy to like and not easy to find time for. yes, it might be time and life-consuming but it's definitely worth all effort.

rsc009 | breaking my heart time and time again

like all good stories the story of breaking my heart time and time again started in a place distant from the here and now. to be more specific it started in the stockholm district of grdet, the then location of low voltage studio, back in 2003. because it was there that dxtr used to do the cleaning and having access to the reservations he knew when the studio would be in use and not and, let's face it, that wasn't the busiest time in the lives of either Tyrone Miller or those Sanchez guys, so mostly the studio stood all empty. whenever he'd find himself alone in the studio dxtr used to fidget around with the equipment, trying to understand what this button did, or the purpose of that slider. after a while, half a year or so, he thought he'd gotten the hang of it and decided to invite his band member dlkk to the studio. the band existed, in theory at least, since a couple of months although they hadn't really gotten round to actually writing, or even playing, any music at all.

the band used to meet quite frequently in the studio plotting to flood the world with gothic reggae and funeral house. neither of them being particularly productive not that much came out of it, apart from a bunch of films being watched and the beginnings of a few songs being put on tape. after a year or so the guys grew tired of each other and since they didn't meet the reels with the songs gathered dust at a shelf in the back of the studio. another year or so later dlkk decided to go into exile and search for his soul in a wet and cold terraced house on the british isles. after having spent a bit too much time fully clothed under a duvet dlkk decided to go back to sweden to finish what he had started (that it took them another year and a half to do so shows how much his determination counts for). and now here it is -four years in the making- the first e.p. of the daughters of a righteous riot is finally available not only in the world of ideas but in the material world as well.

beauty can exist everywhere or beauty can (not) be destroyed are two ways to interpret this second album of Tyrone Miller. layers upon layers of drones, distorted guitars and white and pink noise make simple melodies vanish into the background causing an absence that actually emphasizes these melodies instead. positive, negative, optimistic, pessimistic, grand, crappy, all depending on mood while listening.

rsc007 | referee stops contest volume #1

referee stops contest volume #1 is the first sampler released by redstarcommunity. all songs produced solely for this album by Tyrone Miller making it an enjoyable, coherent but still diverse redstarcommunity experience.

the pleasant dub anthem drr's theme, opening the sampler and introducing our new band daughters of a righteous riot, and the Sanchez is driven by demons dance experiment amazing grace, containing a sample of Aretha Franklin and rhythm (something we would love to hear more of), are two great reasons to give the album a listen. the two tracks by Tyrone Miller (true identity and dance in solitude), reminding of four tet, and the driven by demons remix of drr's theme are three more.

referee stops contest volume #1 is a great example of an album where different artists with different sounds and direction actually can make a perfect whole.
